FAQ of Guzheng (Q & A)

1,  Backgrounds of teacher
A：BA of music + major in Guzheng + more than 4 years' CCA teaching + more than 8 years' 1-1 teaching + performing in Spring Festival Gala, etc. 

2,  Advantage of 1-1 teaching
Teacher can focus on the student and handle the speed of class more enjoyable with respect to student. Teaching plan or the schedule could be more reasonable to student. Time for class is also flexible. In general, student can learn faster and have more confidence in himself/herself. 

3,  Fees
Lower than most music instrument store or music school.
Might be lowest among 1-1 teaching with respect to teacher's background.

The place is around clementi. To instruct at student's house is extra charged. Since the basic fees is low,  extra charged fees might be equal to taxi fees, considering time cost.

4, No background?
No problem. Everything is picked up from bottom. The teacher is patient and pay much attention to students' elementary techniques, basic hand actions which would make a big difference in advanced study. Thus it is important to form the good habit from the beginning. 
To be honest, such kind of focus in teaching also takes effort. 

At the end of each class, Ms. Dong would give some simple homework. As long as student could practice one hour after class, the student can find him/herself a big difference after two or three month's study.

Almost all the students following my instruction use 8 months to finish the study of Level 1 to 3, including all the songs required in the standard textbook. 
A record is that one student can perform in public after half year's hard learning while she started from zero.

5, Advanced level or Taking exam?
No problem. Ms. Dong is familiar with almost everything concerning music exam. She can take care all kind of students of different level. 
Besides, all the songs in exam list are already covered in class.

6, Guzheng Needed?
Yes, highly recommended. It is for self practice after class. Practice helps you absorb what teacher says. 

7，How to choose a suitable Guzheng?
Quoted as "Currently there are four major places that are making guzhengs in China. Shanghai, Yangzhou, Xi'an and Henan.  Each place has its unique method of making, and the tones of the guzhengs are distinctive from each other. "


Guzheng of different material and craft making  are roughly divided into four level: normal, medium level, advanced and collection level.
Medium is better than normal while advanced level is more capable of performing in a concert, compared with normal. The collection level uses special material, for example, crystal.
