Guzheng Style

What is Guzheng?

The answer is quoted from Wiki :
“The guzheng(古筝), also simply called zheng, is a Chinese plucked zither. It has 18-23 or more strings and movable bridges.
The guzheng is the ancestor of several Asian zither instruments, such as the Japanese koto, the Mongolian yatga, the Korean gayageum, and the Vietnamese đàn tranh.”

"In 20th century, guzheng has achieved historic development.  Throughtout the history,  guzheng keeps its vitality by interweaving its music with rich folk foundation and creative performers in each generation.  In the late 20th century, with the tremendous change of social and cultural environment, besides being continuously popular in the mass, guzheng music began to be taught in professional music conservatories.   The mix of professional musicians and folk musicians produces an unprecedented improvements and enrichments in the guzheng music.  The most outstanding example is the emergence of numerous new pieces.  At the end of 20th century, guzheng has become the major Chinese instrument with richest pieces documentaries."

In China, there is a trend that more and more parents want their children, especially girls to learn Guzheng as after-school hobby, similar to CCA in Singapore. Guzheng, like piano, requires joint work of both hands which is suitable for brain development of child. Besides, most of Guzheng perform pieces characterize traditional Chinese culture. Behind each song, there is a beautiful story. Thus Guzheng is beyond a music instrument. It carries on part of Chinese culture which pure our soul,warm our heart. These might be reasons why Guzheng become popular in China.
